Dear All,
there have been a few changes and Ron and I will be chewing it all over on Tuesday and put the final teams out from there.

teams

Post  jimbo on Wed Aug 19, 2009 8:23 am

We have nearly got 4 full teams and we need a further fast runner for the A team or an over 45 for the long (11mile) leg on the vets.
Any takers please?
Also does anyone read any of this as I have had only 2 replies on e mails and less than that here on the forum?
Some replies would indicate enthusiasm..............please. Question

Jim - Glen and I ran our leg Sunday and was a great route - would encourage everyone to try and do tehir leg at least once as there seem to be a few signposts that are strategically 'hidden' - I believe we may now have a full quota?

done and dusted

I hope everyone knows their legs now.
I know Tash and Ben have run theirs again this morning and Mel and the two Graham & Graeme are running tomorrow. Mel and Sue have swapped also.
I have bumped into Mick "shinsplints" over Hadleigh this Sunday morning and he is a keen and able sub; which is good to know.
As of yet we seem to be all set for 4 very good teams.
Good luck to all.

stress and chill

I will be pleased when this run is over and I hope it all goes well.
I want to thank all that have been helping and apologise to any that I have missed out or not personally been able to fix/make arrangements for.
I believe it will be a good day and I am looking forward to the fish and chips at Harwich.
I have a lot of vest team numbers still and will have them down the club again on Thursday. Laughing

Well done each and every runner who competed the 40 legs and supported their team through so many other legs too.
I had a smashing days racing and enjoyed it from (almost) the start to the fish and chips at the end.
The results are not out yet and I think the A team may have finished 2nd but to my mind all of the 500 participants have been winners.
I have a few pics and I know others have some too.
Can we send them to the webmaster to go on the site and share please.
And any special comments for a narrative of the day either post here or to me. Laughing

Was a really good day and thorougly enjoyable...thanks especially to Glen and Karen for the lift and indeed to all the drivers who made the logistics so successful. Also Ron / Jim for organising the teams - even though it did get a bit fraught at times - well done.

My personal memory was a huge sigh of relief as Adam came running past me at about mile 3 on leg 4 (I think Adam mistook this for wheezing). As I was lead Southend runner at the time I had visions of me having to score for the A team - now that was pressure!

Well done all - and hopefully next year we can get at least another team entered!

When do we hear where we came...by the sounds of things we seem to have done alright and everyone seems to have had a good run. The emails are very entertaining!!

See you all tonight for mile reps on the seafront at 7.40 sharp (to quote!!)

Sunday's race was on a fine, dry and hot day. We had 4 full teams for the first time and the race itself has grown to a 48 team entry. Without doubt it will continue to grow as this year's was very well marshalled and organised by very friendly and welcoming "officials" from many clubs across the county who have taken over the challenge from Thurrock Nomads.
The results are on the essex way race website which is easily googled.
The A team came in a strong 2nd and with a few tweaks could win this for sure. Similarly with the Ladies who put a team in which was without a couple of first choices but enthusiastically crewed by ladies willing to support a team ethic with effort and grit.
The Vets (o'45) were one of only three full Vet teams that clubs across the county entered; which shows a good depth of adult athletes:-especially when one Vet also ran in each of the A and B teams.
The B team had some excellant runs and many would have been 1st choice in almost all over teams.
Well done to everyone and I hope we can get 5 teams out next year.

One thing to think about which may be a challenge - as we were I think the second largest entry - think if we enter more teams next year there may be a requirement for us to take on a leg to organise / marshall. The other runners Glen and I chatted to said they arrange it so that they can all run and marshall a leg - just something to consider

organising 2010

Post  jimbo on Thu Sep 10, 2009 7:14 pm

I am not sure we will, as a club, be expected to take a leg to organise. As a club that it is well respected in that we always do a XC meet, and normally additionally either the XC vets, snrs or Xc relay champs (which we are again-mainly sorted by Ron and A N Others) and a lot of clubs "just" turn up and run at those and the biggest 10k and 1/2 marathons in the County which are the Southend races : plus the race is miles from us here in the SE corner.
For next year though a ladies, vets and snrs captains to sort out teams would be good.
