Essex Way Relays

Post  jimbo on Sun Apr 19, 2009 7:19 pm

The run is on thanks to lots of clubs helping with the tasks and change over spots. The best way to recognise their endeavour is to enter and enjoy this great event. Its the first Sunday in September and I hope we can get four teams in this year. If you dont know what it is then ask me or Ron or the 30 others who have run it recently.
Basically its a 10 stage relay from Epping to Harich following the Essex Way long distance footpath thru the best parts of this county. Legs vary from 5 to 13 miles and teams can be mixed, men, women or over 45 vets.

Assuming I stay injury free, put me down for the Essex Way relay (if required). Although I have very limited map reading skills! Very Happy

teams and distances

Post  jimbo on Wed May 20, 2009 4:50 pm

Runners, after last year's almost successes this year we should be looking at further improvements and putting in four full teams. after all a big club like ours must have 40 runners willing to wear a vest with pride- springfield put in over a dozen teams!
From the ladies couldn't we get 10?
Over 45s- ten again
A winning team of ten
And a 4th "run for fun" with no competitive stress team.
Please people let me and Ron have an idea of what distance and which leg you want to run. Laughing

I ran the Stage 8 last year - Dedham to Bradfield - and shall be delighted to do likewise this year, especially as our "AmIgoingtoBotsnoIaint' supremo threatens to run the socks off me......Please put me down (for running this stage) as we would hate to see the Ladies getting their own way, wouldn't we Boys? Does Steve M know where Stage 1 starts? Twisted Evil

book a place

Post  jimbo on Fri Jun 05, 2009 3:16 pm

I note GrahamH's words and position. On the club notice board there is a grid for all the places and a print off of the stages. Penned in are places that runeers have put "first dibs" in for. I ask that people pencil in what leg they want to do and an alternative. What a Face

The road runners seem to have done a great job signing up - we may need to add an extra team

I am down in the slow but sure group doing the same leg as Glen - would be good to get things sorted so we can arrange some training runs over the legs - anyone not put their name down yet - please do it next week!

a few gaps still

Post  jimbo on Fri Jun 26, 2009 10:52 am

We have got the semblance of four teams now and have a few places to fill, Ron and I will be seeking runners for the remaining slots over the next few weeks and from then it will be an idea to get out on your leg and give it a run thru as knowing where your going really helps!
I also suggest car sharing with someone on a leg before or after your leg as logisticacally that helps unless you have a driver. Wink

teams almost full

Post  jimbo on Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:47 am

Ladies and gents,
We have nearly got four full teams and are just a few people short. Ideally we should have a few reserves too. Ron and I will get our heads together to sort out the last spots and then it will be down to everyone to work together on the transport and logistics.
I really think we have four good teams with every opportunity to place well in all three catagories.

The four teams have been e mailed to all the addresses I have, please run your leg a few times and get prepared. Any problems please let Ron and me know ASAP.
And any suggestions for other runners?

Jim - If you need someone to just get round I'm happy to run. However, I'm not sure I will get time to practice a leg so I may lose time map reading!
