Re: London marathon
excellent news - seems we may need a bigger coach to get us all there next year.
re UKA club places - 2 key dates straight from the FLM web site
Closing date for applications – 21st November 2008
Closing date for completed entry forms to be received back in office – 9th January 2009
Which means we won't know number of club places (and therefore how they are being allocated) until probably December
I know there is a committee meeting on Friday - hopefully the 'rules' regarding how places will be allocated will be agreed and communicated so we have a transparent process for the 2009 places - anyone attending the meeting who can confirm on the Forum what's dcided will be I'm sure very popular!

Gutted
I wont be here for the Essex 20 as looking back, I thoroughly enjoyed that run...its was a decent steady pace (did I ever say Thanks Ian, anyway, Thanks Ian for being such a fantastic pace setter) and the weather was rather good to us on that day too!!!
For those of you doing it, enjoy, enjoy and enjoy...............................

more runners
My understand is that Graham Hilbury and his son in law have now taken up the challenge of Charity (Fair Havens) places so the group for long runs will be quite large in the new year.
The more the merrier.

I spy with my ....i
Seen out running yesterday, on their own (no mates?) were Steve Hockett by Hadleigh (travelling very fast), Jane Wright by Elmsleigh Drive and looking as if she is getting back to fitness, and Michael Fairchild on the seafront .
Could these be 3 more marathoners?

Re: London marathon
reckon Micheal was just doing a Sunday run...it was school hols so he was probably getting out while he could!!!!
London Marathon
It must be shy and retiring nature BUT don't forget the tortoise for this race - not putting the distance in at the minute - just concentrating on fitness - come the day I will be there. More than likely I will be running for Fair Havens plus support for an orphanage in India which I will share with you later
Re: London marathon
Not sure how I will approach my London marathon training in 2009. Last time I stopped coming to the club and did my own thing. I often have problems doing a long run at the weekend as have so many badminton commitments. As the slowest runner, I also feel I am holding everyone else up. It is good that so many of us have places, as it will keep us all motivated. I would be OK for a drink after training one Tuesday/ Thursday to talk marathon stuff (any excuse for a drink!)
Its good to talk
I commend Sue's idea, after the club draw we will know who is in and by my guesstimate we will have approx a dozen runners plus and then we can have a chat over a beer and sort out a few races to do together and a few training partners for the long runs. Everyone needs to run at a pace that is in line with their goal time as inj####s can come from running outside of the right zone.
good date
The bar on the 18th seems fine for me and Mel, the club places lottery went well.
Who is "in" for london now?
Ian G, Ian M, Ian M, Darren, Steve M, Steve J, Graham and Graeme, Jim (me), Tash, Ana, Sue, Mel, Jane, Glen, Matt, Mike, Smithy, thats 18 and I have no doubt there will be others.
We should think of different pace groups for long runs, build up races/events, transport for runners and supporters and that we may get new members coming down to train (like leon etc) especially for this and how we can make them welcome and valued.

Drinks on the 18th
Sounds like we have a great team of runners for the marathon next year. I am in for drinks on the 18th, I also have £120 left over from the Pancho's night so we can use it to get a round of drinks if everyone is OK with this.
Hastings marathon
I didn't envy those running at hastings on Saturday if it was as cold, windy and wet there as it was in Southend.
I see the results show jim Atkinson as 16th in 2:56:32, Simon Le Mare as 3:58:23, Graham Hilbury as 3:59:32 and Fiona Hawkins at 4:11:03.
well done to you all.

Re: London marathon
Hastings.......welll.......what they don't show and tell is that there are hills all the way through, up to about mile urrm 20 when you come down to the beach then you need to run on hardend loose track and having to mind the pot holes filled with water...oh yeah and the very short run (only about 20meters) on the pebbles, then you hit the prom with a head on wind which is biting.....it was an absolute hoot, you should try it some time as a training session!!!!!!
Graham and Simon did fantastic....me not so good. Gutted with my time, but i suppose I did as best I could with my dodgy training....botswana really has a lot to answer for!!!! (I was struggling from about 13/14 with sore toes and a stitch.....but I guess nothing can compare to G running with a stressed fracture at last years FLM!!)
Look forward to seeing you all for drinks on Thursday...hey if the legs are up to it then I may even get a little run in too....but currently I have adopted a strange walk so not looking likley!!!!
